Allan Henderson's Page Allan L. Henderson literally grew up on the farm. “I remember picking apples when I was seven years old,” he says. “I got 25 cents per bushel.” Today, Allan oversees all aspects of daily operation. He’s well qualified--over the years he’s done every farm job there is. “My father believed that in order to run a business, you should know how to do everything involved in that business, and I’ve done it all. I’ve driven tractors. I’ve hoed. I’ve done irrigation, harvesting, packing, and loading. I’ve driven the truck. I’ve run the spreadsheets on the computer.” Allan continues to enjoy working in agriculture. “There’s something almost magical about taking a seed and planting it, then watching it grow until it’s ready to be picked. I like the thought that somewhere somebody bit into one of our apples, and it was crisp. Or someone ate our beans and enjoyed them.” Allan has associate degrees in agricultural maintenance and technology as well as electronic data processing. He actively serves agriculture through participation in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension programs, the North Carolina Apple Festival and other organizations. |
